In memory of
Big Em

Angels do not have wings, for in reality, angels are covered with fuzzy Kitty hair. I know this as I just looked after one. This particular angel’s name was Ember or Big Em for short. He was a gift given to me two months and five days ago.

Big Em arrived on my doorstop frightened and lonely. He was found shivering and hungry huddled under a tree. How long had he been there no one knows but his ordeal left him scared and untrusting of people.

I would come to him each day using the only thing I had to heal him which was love. He was a tough nut to crack, greeting my efforts with a gentle hiss. Than one day instead of waiting for me to come to him, Big Em got up and walked directly to me as if to say I'm OK now. After all he had been through, in that one instance, he showed me that wounded souls can be healed with love.

After that breakthrough Big Em could not get enough lovin'. He would gladly sit on my lap for an entire day and not think that was an unreasonable amount of time.

On December 22, 2009, Big Em all of a sudden took a turn for the worst and had to be rushed to the vet. He was in very bad shape and was given a poor prognosis. His ordeal had indeed exacted a great toll on his poor little body. The very difficult and heart-wrenching decision was made to let him go in peace.

Big Em was surrounded by the love of all whose lives he had touched in the short time he had been with us. He took his last breath being held in gentle arms with tears raining gently upon him.

I know that when I look into the sky tonight I will see Big Em as the brightest star in the sky. To look into his eyes, his very soul, was like catching a glimpse of heaven.

Go in peace my furry friend.

Our hearts will not forget you.
