Dog & Cat Food Recall Alert: Nature's Variety Issues Nationwide Voluntary Recall On Raw Frozen Chicken Diets With A "Best If Used By" Date Of 11/10/10. Nature’s Variety has initiated a voluntary recall of their Chicken Formula Raw Frozen Diet for dogs and cats with a “Best If Used By” date of 11/10/10 because these products may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Victoria Cat Rescue
Corps Society The Victoria Cat Rescue Corps Society provides financial support to LOW INCOME cat owners for the spay/neuter of their cat(s). This year the Blitz runs from February 1 to April 30. Interested owners should call 250-656-1100 and leave their name and number. A volunteer will call them back to discuss eligibility and details. Cats or Kittens?
If your indoor cat
should accidentally One of the first things to do is to put food and water right by the door that the cat escaped from. Do this immediately and put some kind of shelter, or covered bed close by. Most cats do not go too far (unless chased away by other animals) and if you call the cat softly, throughout the day and especially at dusk and during the evening, your cat may hear a familiar voice and feel comfortable about coming to get the food. Remember, if the cat is an indoor cat, he or she will be terrified about being in the big, wide world and will hide as much as possible. If the cat can hear or smell someone familiar, it may come for food. Persist at doing this for a couple of weeks. In addition, put posters up in your area with a photo of your cat and contact the CRD Pound and SPCA to alert them that your cat is missing. Homes Needed for Semi-Feral Cats & Kittens: The cats shown on this site are domesticated, and (most) are accustomed to living as either indoor or indoor-outdoor cats in real homes. We recommend that, if possible, cats should be kept indoors all the time. But some cats do need to be allowed outdoors for an hour or two each day, provided this does not endanger them in any way.

I have one such cat in my house, Dr. Phil, he is the best friend to most of my cats and will even look after kittens who have been orphaned. Neuter Your Pets:
Cats
like to chew on grass in order to regurgitate hairballs. This habit
gets cats into trouble! Many outdoor plants and houseplants are
poisonous, even in small quantities. Indoors, cats will readily
substitute a houseplant for grass. Outdoors they may unwittingly
choose poisonous plants that should be removed from your garden.

Consider
bringing a young cat into your family instead of a kitten. Children love
young cats just as much as they love kittens, and it’s usually easier to
teach a child how to properly care for a cat. Kittens tend to be, well,
energized and a bit wild! “Contessa” (see photo) is about 3 years old,
loves people, and is superb with children. Kittens are a gamble as to what
their personality will turn out to be… Cats like Contessa are great
fun for kids. Contessa has been
adopted but please go to "Our Cats" to see other cats who need homes !"
Many of the cats that
need our help, however, are semi-feral. We are desperate for homes for
these semi-feral cats and kittens. These cats will likely never be
completely domesticated but will make wonderful companions for other cats.
They should be able to be indoor-outdoor cats and will just require a
warm place to sleep and to be fed. They will be no trouble at all, you
will hardly know you have them. In time, they may warm up to human company
but they may not. The only other alternative to finding homes for these
cats is to release them where they will live a very difficult, short life.
