11 Oct 08 - "Risa" is having a wonderful time in her new home.  She was with CCAR for a long time, but her foster parents, Al and Grace, say that her superb new home with Michelle was well worth the wait!

9 Oct 08 - We have a gentle and affectionate female cat, "Dora", who is now ready for adoption. Her coat is a lovely soft grey colour. A bio and one photo are on the site now, and there will be more photos real soon!
9 Oct 08 - "Rambo" has a new lease on life at his foster home with Geoff who also has "Rendell".  His bio and one photo are now on our website and more photos will be on soon!  He is a very big, sweet and adorable boy.
9 Oct 08 - "Cleopatra" has been adopted ! Pet's West found a superb home for her.  We're really happy that she now has her own permanent family.
THANKS 8 Oct 08 - Our belated thanks to foster dad Kenji who helped at the recent cat show in Esquimalt.  We also offer a big hug for Wes from Pets West who was at the next table and jumped in to help whenever he was needed to fill in the gaps!  We greatly appreciate the enthusiasm and support of both of them !
CAT FACTS 6 Oct 08 - It's a myth that cats that are spayed or neutered automatically gain weight. In fact, like people, cats gain weight from eating too much, not exercising enough or both. In many cases, spaying or neutering is done at an age when the animal's metabolism already has slowed, and its need for food has decreased. If the cat continues to eat the same amount, it may gain weight. Cat owners can help their cats stay fit by providing exercise and not over-feeding.
Cat's Need Petting! 5 Oct 08 - Do you have a couple of hours to spare? Like to spend it socializing shy, timid and traumatized cats and kittens? If so, contact Beverly at 250-655-6451 and arrange to come to her house to do just this. You will need transportation as her home is near the airport. The cats need exposure to more people and more petting. All these cats are waiting for a quiet, gentle foster home to go to where they can learn more about trusting people but, in the meantime, any time you can spend with these wonderful pets will be beneficial.
THANKS 4 Oct 08 - A BIG thank you to Fred Dumbrel of Fort Dodge Animal Health, manufacturer of prescription and over-the-counter medications for companion animals and livestock, for the very generous donation of animal vaccines for our use. So much appreciated -- this will be a huge money saver for us.
NEED HELP 3 Oct 08 - Are there any handypersons out there who could donate a few hours to build us some shelves in an outside cat enclosure? We will pay for materials, but need to be told what is required. This project has some urgency. Please help the cats be more comfortable; it feels good!  Contact Beverly at 655-6451 if you can give us a hand.
SMILE CARDS 2 Oct 08 - Thanks to Thrifty's Foods for including us in their Smile Card program. We give you a card that you take to Thrifty's -- you load it with cash, then use that cash to pay for your groceries -- then Thrifty's gives CCAR a donation equal to 5% of what you bought. There is no cost to you to get the card or use it.  Call Beverly at 250-655-6451 to get a blank card.

FABRIC TRADERS 1 Oct 08 - Andrea from Fabric Traders in Sidney <www.fabrictraders.ca> is an animal lover and a great supporter of CCAR. She supplied all the cat fabric for the quilt which is being raffled. She also has a CCAR collection box in her store. Check out this wonderful store and have a chat with this knowledgeable lady. She offers all kinds of sewing instruction classes for those of you who would love to learn to do something different (perhaps make some items that CCAR could sell??)
MISSING 30 Sep 08 - Ginger and white male cat is missing from Deep Cove (Lands End / Woodcreek) area. Has full white chest and white star-like pattern on hind leg. Small tear in one ear. Standoffish with people but not aggressive. Great shape for 14 yrs old, but needs his meds. May answer to name : SAM. Missing since Sat. 20 Sep. Please call Vanessa at 250-654-0022 with any info.
THANKS 29 Sep 08 - Our thanks go out to Colin and Matt, contractors, who built us an incredible feral pen. It is a work of art and ideal for those cats who cannot be domesticated. If anyone needs any work done around their house, Beverly recommends these guys.
HELPING 28 Sep 08 - CCAR recently helped out the SPCA by fostering four mums with kittens that were taken from a home by the SPCA.  Lisa and Glen and Kenji and Mari stepped in and have taken two sets of these kittens; Charlotte will be helping out when Kenji and Mari leave for Japan shortly by taking their kittens.  Beverly had two sets of kittens and sadly the mom of the very youngest kittens (about three days old) rejected them and, despite desperate attempts to save the kittens, the last one died at 3am on Monday morning.  Although often rewarding, rescue work can be tough; heartbreaking; and tragic.
FOUND 27 Sep 08 - Found:  a black and white cat approximately 10 years old, very thin and malnourished but very sweet. It was wandering around Victoria Airport. Call 655-8268 if this is your cat.
27 Sep 08 - "Cheryl's 5 Kittens" make up a litter of 6 month old kittens that were posted to the web site today. Check them out via the "Our Kittens" page.
UPDATES 26 Sep 08 - The site has been updated to reflect recent adoptions. Cats "Boris", "Risa", "Cleopatra", and "Rendell" have gone to new lives at new homes. Kitten litters "Linda's 3 Black Kittens" and "Cuddley 2 Kittens" have also been fully adopted out. Visit "Our Cats" and "Our Kittens" to look at their photos one more time !

Volunteer Needed 25 Sep 08 - Beverly really needs someone who is willing to come to her house once a week and cart off used kitty litter for disposal. We will, of course, pay disposal fees but this is hard physical work and Bev is getting older! Contact Bev at 250-655-6451. Even occasional assistance would be much appreciated.

We're hoping this ad will dramatically increase the number of visitors to our website and thus help us find homes, foster homes, help and, of course, donations. LINDA AWAY 24 Sep 08 - From now until October 1, Cat's Cradle will be slowing down briefly as Linda is out of town.  If you wish to foster or adopt, call Beverly at 655-6451.  Beverly will be busy covering all the bases, so other "services" will be cut back for one week.
CAT SHOW SUCCESS 23 Sep 08 - Beverly and Linda want to thank the wonderful volunteers who helped out at the Cat Show this weekend. Al and Grace, Geoff and Roseanne (who did such a wonderful job preparing binders and generally helping us get ready for the show.) I think there may have been someone else there but I don't have a name? Apologies and mucho gracias.

We sold lots of tickets for the quilt raffle, several cat beds, found two potential foster homes and adopted one kitten out. Not bad for a weekend of work! We are both so very grateful to our wonderful volunteers/foster homes, for everything they do.

CAT FACTS 17 Sep 08 - The oldest cat on record was Puss, from England, who died in 1939 just one day after her 36th birthday.  (We wish we could have them all that long!) 
16 Sep 08 - Cat's Cradle is at capacity until we have a few more adoptions and some new foster homes.  These three cats actually chose to scrunch into their cat condo together, but a picture is worth a thousand words!
