Adoption Information
Prior to Adoption:
Every animal that comes into our care is thoroughly checked by a veterinarian. If not already done, animals of more
than 6 months of age are spayed/neutered.
We are usually unaware of vaccination histories, so we assume that if an animal is already spayed/neutered when it
joins us, it will already have had its initial course of vaccinations, and we provide only a booster shot in that case.
If it is not spayed/neutered, we assume that the animal has received NO shots ever and it receives a full round
of vaccinations. If the animal is in our care for more than 4 weeks after that initial shot, we supply the required
booster.
All kittens and puppies will receive their first shot, a booster (if still in our care at the end of 4 weeks), and a
certificate for spaying/neutering when the animal is old enough (approximately 6 months).
All animals receive a dose of a worming and flea treatment and a further dose of worming medication if required after
two weeks.
Our adoption fees are based on how much we have had to pay for the above veterinary care. We do not include food
or other supplies in our fees; however, we always appreciate a donation towards these costs also.
Donations and payments can be made in cash, by cheque or by using your VISA or MasterCard (Do not send cash in the mail!)
The adoption process is
- careful and efficient to protect the well-being and best interest of the animals
- thorough, yet streamlined to go as quickly as possible
- focused on providing you with an animal that will be a good match
- pleasant and congenial
To adopt a CAT
- Contact Us by phone or email
- determine whether the cat’s profile sounds like a good “match”
- make an appointment for a volunteer to bring the cat to your home (come to the cat’s foster home for a “meeting” if more convenient)
- find out whether the volunteer feels the cat will do well in your environment
- realize the cat will require time to adjust to your home and other pets
- complete a one-page Adoption Form
- make a donation based on CCAR’s cost to prepare the animal for adoption
Adopting a cat requires that you
- make a commitment to the well-being of the cat
- accept all financial responsibility for care and medical attention of the cat
- agree to give CCAR the option to take the cat back if you cannot keep it for any reason
If the cat does not work out within a short time, you may
- return the cat because of unforeseen circumstances
- be eligible for a refund at the discretion of CCAR
To adopt a KITTEN you must
- Contact Us to obtain and complete an Adoption Application Form
- be sure you are not adopting on a whim
- remember that a kitten will soon be a CAT
- follow the procedure shown above under “To adopt a CAT”
To adopt a DOG
- Contact Us by phone or email
- fill out an Adoption Questionnaire
- make an appointment for a volunteer to do a home check
- find out if CCAR feels your environment is right for the type of dog you want
- meet the dog and see if there is a "match"
- sign a Release of Liability Waiver prior to adoption
- complete an Adoption Form
- make a donation based on the expenses CCAR incurred for the dog
Adopting a dog requires that you
- make a commitment to the well-being of the dog
- accept all financial responsibility for care and medical attention of the dog
- agree to give CCAR the option to take the dog back if you cannot keep it for any reason
If the dog does not work out within a short time, you may
- return the dog because of unforeseen circumstances
- be eligible for a refund at the discretion of CCAR
